At age 17, Bethany Childs has released her first CD of original songs, and this is great music! Bethany's clear voice sings out about the thoughts and feelings of one searching life and her own soul, exploring the mix of uncertainties, innocence, frustrations, and joys. There is much to relate to in her lyrics, and the emotional sound of her guitar is enhanced by a variety of backup singing and instruments. REVIEWS

"I found Fishing very refreshing, peaceful, and inspirational. Thoughtful lyrics, smooth melodies, and an overall good production. The recording atmosphere reminded me of the first Cowboy Junkies CD. A few moments of near déjà vu were evoked especially on tracks 6 (I Don't Know) and 9 (Little Girl). I also found myself drawing comparisons to Alanis Morissette and Avril Lavigne vocal skills, although perhaps without the subliminal and obvious anger they tend to exude. Please tell Bethany I enjoyed her art very much and wish her good fortune with future efforts."

"I haven't been touched like this by music since Joni Mitchell's early songs. Bethany's music makes my heart sing!"

A review from Theta Alpha Journal

I am honored that I was asked to write something about Bethany Child's CD, "Fishing". I was fortunate to buy a copy of the CD early last summer and I have listened to it many times since then. At first I was amazed that such a full, rich voice could come from such a "little" girl! (I know.... Bethany isn't really little. I have just known her since she was a little girl and ... well... I just can't believe this big, beautiful voice was hers!) The more I listened the more I loved it! Her style is compatible to a musician like Joni Mitchell with a rock and roll twist. The harmony and background music is very professional as well. Her songs are her own... straight from her heart. That is why I especially love her lyrics. They are minimalistic and straight-forward, but far from elementary. Bethany truly show talent well beyond her years. I look forward to her next masterpiece!

GARAGEBAND.COM reviewers:

"…a voice that sounds like an angel with very tasteful harmonies. 'Will you ignore me please, but not forget I'm here' is a brilliant line…"

"I like the lead vocalist's tone and delivery….The dynamics are REALLY nice."

"Lead vocals are strong and very engaging. The lyrics made me care about the singer. Much better than Alanis Moresette. Drums were really good, not flamboyant but effective."

"The lead vocals are good. I like the vocalist's style and tone…. A well played well-written song."

"I love the quality of the first female vocals - sounds wonderful."

"Nice vocals. Good harmony and lyrics."

"I enjoy the steel rusty feel of the guitars… Nice melody line, and I enjoy the vocals a lot."

"It's easy to get close to words that speak of something real and something that has been said before but not in this fashion. Good job."

"As a songwriter and singer I have too many superlatives for this song to list. The simple efficient use of the naturally beautiful sound of a guitar begins the journey. The somewhat haunting vocals give the song an original sound and the arrangement of vocals shows great creativity. The lyric sequence regarding the "ignore" and "adore" are very inspired and thought provoking. An excellent all around, well-crafted, well-written, well arranged song with talented musicians and vocals. Percussion allows good beat but does not over power the vocals. Congrats."

"The female vocals are particularly good… Nice work."

"This just comes across as heart felt. I like it. The music doesn't require pure perfection which normally is something I look for. It has a nice lazy feel that suits the song. Good song. Nicely done."

"The vocals were very nice. Good range and pretty confident."

"I like the lost sweet fragile quality of the vocal."

"Lead vocals are very strong and compelling. Excellent lyric and strong pull on my feelings now. Love and fear and angst. A passionate vocal and very sultry delivery. Drums are with it all the way. A really sad but beautiful song reflecting real talent."

"The leadsinger sounds a little like Jewel, and I think she sounds good."

"The lyrics are really right on and the over all mix sounds good. The female back up reminded me of Joni Mitchell."

"Lyrics are well written. Wish I could come up with something like that."

"Man, this girl has a great voice."

"The lead vocal has a unique tone...not unlike Victoria Williams."

"You have a real personal style of playing guitar.... you put real emotion into the strums."

"The lead vox are right up front and laid back with a confident power… The lyrics are meaningful and thoughtful."

"Vocals here are clean and mellow. Lyrics are universal enough to relate."

"Sweet lead vocal. I like the groove."

"Lead vocals: Wonderful."

"The mood of the lyrics is good, capturing a kind of depression where the singer is both calling for attention and refusing it."

"I love the vocals!!!! Your lead singer has such a cool voice. I love her tone. It's very genuine sounding."

"I like the vocals, very tastefully done...with nice layers. The harmonies are cool too. The mood is strong."

"I dig this group! Lead vocalist excellent - very Lisa Loebish."

"Great track with a steady, smooth groove. The lead vocalist is very, very talented. I love the way her voice has so much character, without being distracting. The lyrics are simple while still being interesting... they have this
awesome ironic honesty that draws me right in. The drums are fine. They seem to be on a good level with the rest of the song, and they keep it all moving well. This song is going on the playlist."

"The lyrics are nice ... sweet ... good job!"

"I really enjoyed listening to this song and I thought that the harmonies were exceptional."

"With a voice like that you could sing an infomercial and I would like it."
